Finnished!

Wow Its finally over, I have learnt ALOT about the internet and websites that i never even knew existed and I just want to thank everyone for helping me out!!!
I will use my knowledge in the future to help myself and other find information, communicate and callaborate!

The only bad thing about the course was that the 15 min a day was abit unrealistic! It took 15 min to just read and watch the examples sometimes!

Im sad to be leaving my Blog - I have become quite attached to it!

I cant wait for the day when technology wins over workplaces it will simplfy everything and everyone will gain a greater understanding, with less confusion!
So im happy that I learnt all that I did now instead of later on down the track!
so thankyou again!!!

KEEP SMILING!!

Luv Bree!

Wrap up; social networks and catch up!!!

YAY finally something i know!!!
Social networking seems to be my life sometimes, I have a Myspace, Facebook, Bebo and a high5
Nobody used telephone anymore I talk to my friends and keep in close contact Via the internet!
I mainly only use Myspace because it has the most people which means i can find almost anybody I know to talk to! so its excellent for keeping in touch with old school friends etc!
You do have to be carful though, I make sure that i dont put any private information online and Also i have set my profile to private so that only friends can see what im doing and see pictures etc.
I think this would be an excellent way to communicate with Patrons, especially teenagers I would love to sit down at the computer and just chat and help out people Via myspace, its so simple the library could create a professional myspace, when you become a member of our library we will add your e-mail to our website so that you can post questions etc in our comments, Someone from the library can them go to your profile and answer your question via comment or message!
But this would take ALOT of staff time, But i do think it would be a great way to presuade teenagers into our library system!!
Because everyone in the whole world would have access to our kibrary page we could become a GROUP and add other libraries around the world and talk to each other about events, promotions and just news in general!
This would stop the need for directors and managers traveling overseas to meet and greet because you could just talk to overseas Libraries and spread the word about our own library in online meetings! you can even use webcams so that it is more personal! AND the best part of it is ITS FREE!!!!!!

The possibilities and Endless!! seriously!
I LOVE SOCIAL NETWORKING!

Online applications and tools

I sent my Page to nswpln@gmail.com so you can look at it, I hope it worked ok.
It was abit confusing at first i did'nt really know what to do, So i just did a write up on Horseflu at the moment to share with my friends so they can add to it when they hear updates etc.

I think this is great and could be used in a library. I think that libraries could use this to talk communicate with each other about certin topics and to help patrons from home if we cant help them straight away at the library.
for example, say if John Smith came in and asked for information for this daughter about a topic and i could'nt find the answers anywhere he could go home instead of waiting and i could make a Online application and invite him to look and have input into it when i have found the information he needed. he can then simply invite others e.g his daughter and instead of sending messy e-mails there would be one document there that they could both share and change.

I think its an exclellent idea, But it would take up alot of staff time, i think down the track when technology is going to be a major factor in Life this will be a life support for students, teachers and everybody.

Mashups!!!

haha This is My Mash-up, I took this picture on my way to Stanthorpe on the weekend! it was All country on the way out there and I had to stop and take a picture of a cow hehe

I dont know how mash-ups could be used in Libraries? Maybe for signs or promotional materials? Or if we had a library blog we could all muck around with photos, I think its an excellent website though and actually come to think of it, in the future when children use the internet as much as adults we could run a Storytime where they can bring in photos of themselves on usbs and we they can make mashups with them haha
No but seriouesly im not to sure how this would work in a library system but it was fun to play with!

Podcasts and Audio

I think my Library could benifit from the use podcasts for patrons and staff!
we could have a Podcast feed for different links on our internet site, We could use it for booktalks so that people could HEAR and WATCH instead of just reading book reviews.
You could use it for things such as local history where people could watch Speeches etc - But issues would have to be considered such as copyright.
Im not sure if IT has restrictions on Podcasts and Audio on public PCS that may be an issue aswell.
But overall I think you could use podcasts and Audio to advertise the library and to open up new ideas and new ways of communicating and sharing information with patrons.
This could benifit vision impared patrons aswell - the possibilities are endless!

slamming the boards

This is a good idea though I think that it would only appeal to younger and computer literate people who are happy to deal with a computer and not a real person!
I know my library deals with alot of seniors that thrive and depend on interacting directly with a person, they would struggle and get upset if they did'nt have that face to face aspect of our service.
The other downfall of using this would be that it would take up alot of staff time both promoting and answering online questions.
Though if there were extra staff who were keen to partake in Slamming the boards and there was enough interest from patrons this would be an excellent concept for helping out people who dont like the confronting situation of asking questions in person.
Yup :)

Library ThAng haha

Well well well This is fantastic!!! Wonderful! Great! Finally i can search for a book Via Tags! WhooHOO!!!!
I think this is a super idea! and one worth celebrating :) you can see what other people think of the books that you like! then you can see what They like and usually its around the same Themes! so you can expand your reading and authors and read something different than what you would usually pick up!
YAY!
This is just a wonderful idea, expecially for Bookclubs! Goodie!
Oh and storytime! this would be fun for storytime! everyone could calaberate ideas and themes and what books chicldren respond well to!
YAY! again!

Technorati AHH

Technorati - Is Very CREEPY! I joined, I dont know why, But i did! Its very interesting and Creepy to the Extreme!! Searched alot of keywords and alot of interesting information came up!!!! I did'nt want to know I was being tracked, It really makes you relise how on the internet Nothing is Private! Scary Stuff!!

MMMMMM Del.icio.us

This is My Delicious!!
I just did the websites i know best and would want to share with others.
I think that Del.icio.us would be fantastic! for homework help! you could get the kids to bookmark their fave websites and other students can see them and they can calabarate ideas and make more informed choices because they have more information available to them, Also they would be learning from each other so it would be alot easier for them because nobody would be telling them what to do.
With reference I think this is excellent- all staff could be logged on during the day to have added information for patrons! to go ABoVE AND BEYOND hehe
I think this site is very relevant and helpful!
Searching is simple and you can create networks and suscribe to others - GREAT IDEA!

YOU TUBE!!!!!!!!!

Spinning Around!

*~ Hey Hey ~*

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUTUBE and GOOGLE VIDEO!
I could spend hours just searching topics and watching movies! its fantastic! You can find anything from music videos to cooking instructions and MORE!!
I think this would benifit our Library because we could upload a Video of our Library and make it sort of a virtual Tour! showing the inside and the outside of the Library as well as directions on how to get here!
We could also have Videos of different topics or a video a moth that people wanna watch like
"ask a Librarian"
Where one of us could sit down and talk about a topic of interent and how to research it or something!!!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I just found a really good video on Youtube but i cant find anywhere to embed it into my Blog?
At the moment its on there in a Video Bar...But there is 4 on the subject i wanted, How do i only get the specific one i want? and actually embed it properly onto my Blog.
I saw you can add video in the creating a blog page, but its uploading it from a saved file on the computer, and I dont have any saved videos on my computer and you cant save YouTube Videos straight to your computer.
If anyone could help me with this it would be fantastic! Im getting dizzy trying to work it out!!

CYA!

WIKI WIKI WIKI WIKI!!!

I just added information and made an entry in the NSW learning 2.0 wiki.

I Created a Trainee Link that I linked to library assistant (i felt very tricky) haha

I then responded to the questions asked, I said

"HEY ALL!! Im a Library Trainee, But only for a few more months - The best thing about being a Trainee is that you expand your horizons and LEARN SO MUCH!!! The best thing about working in a public library is that everyday you learn something new - everyday a patron wants a book on a different topic for a different reason! I love it because I have learnt about alot of things i never even knew existed! I love working with the public though i still get abit anoyed when they come in sick and coughing all over the place.
I dont know what people dont know about my role at the Library, Its pretty straight forward - I guess they dont know we sit out the back trying to understand learning 2.0 haha YAY!"

Just incase anyone was wondering! Its the

BRIGHT BIG YELLOW AND PINK ONE HAHA!

Twas very exciting! I love wikis now! dont know how i ever lived without then hehe

ANYWAYS Hoo Roo! Back to work I go!

Wowsers Wiki!!

Now I feel abit embarrassed because I thought i could come into this learning 2.0 and Blitz it, I've grown up with computers i dont even remember ever physically writing a letter to anybody! or Actually hand writing an essay!
I have HTML, facebook and myspace down to an art - But a WIKI! i NEVER actually knew what that ment or what it was for! i knew wikipedia but i did'nt realise that it was only ONE of MANY Wikis!

Oh how silly i feel!!
I think it is a WONDERFUL! idea - the concept of Wikis! I can go into horse sites and Add myself to Shows, RSVPs Etc without having to do all that silly e-mailing back and forth!
VERY GOOD!
I think it could get messy but applications within the library that could use a Wiki would be

STORYTIME!
people could talk about craft ideas, book ideas anything really!

UP COMMING EVENTS!
people could look on that wiki and Add their thoughts and ideas!

HOLIDAYS
So the public can see when our holidays are and add comments to let us know if we missed anything or if they need to organise around us!

THE LIST IS ENDLESS!!!!

I think that it is really a fantabulous idea for Libraries and i hope that in the future we can embrace it!

YEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAA

YAY RSS!!!!

What do you like about RSS and newsreaders?

The things i like most about RSS and newsreaders is that they save you alot of time and energy! I like this idea because it means you can do alot less and gain the same outcome or more!! I like that you can just add your fave webpages to your Feeds and then you get updates and information when it is uploaded instead of having to always check the webpages.

What sites did you select for your RSS reader?

I selected

Art Deadlines List
Bloglines News
National Geographic News: Animals & Nature
Powerhouse Museum - Photo of the Day
The Shifted Librarian

How do you think you might be able to use this technology in your work?

I think we could add important Library , news and community websites to our Feeds for our Library and be updated on new and current information instead of having to search websites for it. saving time and keeping us more involved and informed!!

How can libraries use RSS or take advantage of this new technology?

As i stated above I think that if each Library created an account on 'Bloglines' or something similar they could add feeds from their Local Government, Community, News and Other Library webpages Then each time one of those is updated we would know asap! making us ALOT mopre informed and aware of whats happening around us.

Did you find any good examples of other library blogs?

I found some but Im not sure if they were good examples, This website i found a bit daunting.

There we go Finally uploaded it

There we go
This is the Image of the sculpture i liked!!! I think i tried uploading it last time after i had already written my blog, u must have to have a blank page before trying to upload images, anywhoo Thats the picture so you dont have to look up the link

yay!

Flickr WOO HOO! :)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/auntie/102849108

Above is a link to the picture (because it would'nt upload) i liked most in flickr so far! Its a sculpture of books that remind me of artist Andy Warhol - The only information i could find on this sculpture was -

“Good as gold,” purchased at a cost of $34,000, stands eight feet high and is a continuous loop of books resting on steel feet. Holes drilled into the books were strung like beads onto a steel bar. Lipski stated that the project took “two to three months” from inception to completion. Most of the books looped into the sculpture came from the Book Barn in Bridgehampton, New York and were selected by Lipski based on size, color, and subject matter. As a special addition, a few books at the base of the sculpture are withdrawn items from The Kansas City Public Library's collection.
I think it would be amazing if we had a WHOLE line of these circles of books so it would be like a corridor and you could walk down it to get into the library! but you would have to make sure it was undercover of course in case of rain! it might get a tad soggy.

I think it is really creative and a fantastic idea!! I want one!! you cuold make a whole rainbow will all the different coloured books! the ideas go on forever!

Who needs chairs!

It's never too soon or too late for learning

HOWDY ALL! Y E
I hope that i learn a lot from this program like exploring the emerging technologies on the Internet that are evolving the way people, society and libraries access information and communicate with each other, I think this program is an excellent idea and i am very excited to be given the opportunity to embark on this journey of discovery!
Although i am pretty cluey about the Internet and can handle most websites, e-mails and other online things I have not used ANY of the resources that we will be learning about! So I'm very eager to learn!

I think the concept of Life long Learning is fantastic! Its good to learn different things as we all grow up otherwise we get stuck in a rut and nothing new or exciting happens, you also get to keep up to date with current and ever changing technologies which i think is wonderful! You also learn skills for life! and its much easier in this day and age to have a knowledge of the Internet and modern technologies it helps you keep in touch - after all I don't think I've used my land line for months e-mail is free!

I haven't looked at any other blogs as of yet if anybody knows good ones do tell!, I'm still exploring this website, though I have seen blogs on myspace these are a lot more formal and informative, I am looking at somebodies blog page now and it has pictures and a different background! I'm excited to learn how to modify my page so it looks a bit more how i would like it to look! I tried uploading a new background but it failed....i;ll try again and again until it works ha ha!

I can see a MAJOR use for blogs in the library system, it can be the missing link between staff and patrons, making the whole library service more friendly, it would also give a chance for patrons to show there interest and give feedback on current issues!! Also it would bring in a lot of younger patrons which would be FANTASTIC! because the library needs teenagers ha ha it would expand the libraries horizons and invite people to be a part of the bigger picture!

YEE HAA!!! h

Another Day Another E-mail

Amongst other things like plastic cards in my wallet I seem to be collecting my own e-mails I know have 8!!!
2 for hotmail
2 for yahoo
1 westnet
1 Myspace
1 Facebook

AND NOW 1 G-Mail

AHHH I don’t know how Im going to cope with all this, I cant get rid of any because they all have a different purpose like some are personal some are work some are overseas contacts the list goes on!
It would be great to combine them all but it just wouldn’t work!

But this learning 2.0 looks excellent; I haven’t used any of the specific programs that are on here so it looks like I’ll be learning a lot YAY! Hopefully it wont be to challenging and I can just cruse along at my own pace – goodie!

Im on lunch break at the moment and just went home for my hour – toast and a cup of extra strength tea (yummo) The weather is horrible though, all wind and rain, I’ve felt like I’ve had NO summer at all! I’ve been to the beach ONCE! I bought a new pair of swimmers and I have used them ONCE! What a waste! I hope that winter is bright and summer, because summer was raining and cold!

Any who I have to go back to workies now
